In the beginning, Tashi was analyzing her new environment and “siblings” from a distance and tested the water by behaving in certain ways that annoyed many of other children at school. As the result of her chosen actions, she received responses from her new friends and teachers. Lobsang, being a good listener and an open minded monk, learned that Tashi was reacting in such a way because of her background. This is how Lobsang used his knowledge of Tashi’s bitter background to identify ways that he could help Tashi to merge with her new family.

The monk used his personal stories as a way to position himself as having a life story that was also as bad as his children’s. This creates a symmetrical relationship between him and all his children. Positionality was also a strategy that he used to lift his students. As he talked to them personally, he positioned them as the bigger brother / sister and that everyone of them has responsibility for other people. This approach seemed to work to help Tashi who was in dire need of protection and sense of security from his surroundings. I believe as a teacher, we should be able to provide a sense of security or , in the context of taking risk in learning, free from the fear of making mistakes. In my observations of the two teachers, I found that both teachers managed to create relaxed atmosphere but occasionally put the class in monologic stance to reach a simple purpose such as task
