Dunwoody Playcrafters presented a play Tartuffe, where we could enjoy loads of society comedy and satire scenes, starts with the family gathering where the mother of Orgon, Mme. Pernelle, says that their family have become decadent and depraved and uses the opportunity to criticize all the family members. Here, Tartuffe is a guest at Orgon’s house who is a good or holy man for Orgon and his mother. But rest of the family members are against him as they think he is a wicked person. So, the main theme of this play was to reveal the truth of Tartuffe who was acting to become a good person in front of Orgon.
Talking about the story of play, Orgon wants his daughter to marry Tartuffe. Orgon is so attracted towards Tartuffe, that when he returned back he was anxious to hear about Tartuffe rather than his sick wife Elmire. When Orgon finds the truth, he wants Tartuffe out of his house but the wicked Tartuffe have owned his house and also have some other documents which could give trouble to the Orgon. Later, when Tartuffe comes with the officer, to his surprise the officer takes the side of the Orgon’s family revealing that King has seen the hypocrisy of Tartuffe and has ordered him to be imprisoned for his crime. Orgon gets all his property back. And like always, this play has the same moral, good always wins over bad no matter how cunning and wicked the bad is.
