Tarnishing America’s Image Each and every day people strive to establish peace throughout the world. People are frightened about the terrorism that surrounds their country and the possibility of it entering the country. While it may seem logical to restrict people from Muslim countries in order to ensure safety for the American citizens, the Travel Ban is a unethical and unacceptable action that must be repealed. All Syrian refugees are not terrorists. They face the brutality of from the “civil war and the growing threat of ISIS” ( Lutheran Immigration & Refugee Service). Refugees are not part of the terrorist organization; they have, in fact, lost their homes and stable lives

The Unites States have promised to protect refugees from their estranged life due to the chaos in their country (Lutheran Immigration & Refugee Service). In fact, this policy was set in place from mid-twentieth century. Trump’s action completely disregards that responsibility. In addition, his statements and actions could be considered unconstitutional(USA TODAY). Not only is the ban a curtailment against citizens of seven Middle Eastern countries, but also it targeted directly towards Muslims. Trump believes that the groups solely being affected by the terror in Syria are the Christians and other non-Muslim religion; however, according to the Pew Research Center, an “equal number of Christian and Muslim refugees [were] admitted last year” ( qtd.USA TODAY). This portrays the United States as a country that discriminates against religions. The United States, on the contrary, is a country that was formed on people seeking religious tolerance or escaping the hardships in their country. It would be hypocritical to impose such ban on those who wish to do the …show more content…
For example, the travel ban was placed to reevaluate the vetting process, but the procedure former President Obama put in place allowed entrance for the refugees only after a “two years” (USA Today). Moreover, various statistics from Cato Institute clearly explain that there is a “one in 3.6 billion” for refugee to strike the United States. Therefore, it is then evident that a revision of the vetting process is not vital. After the catastrophic 9/11, it is understandable for people to have fear and want to restrict those that are likely to impose such terror. In this case, the travel ban should be place on the countries from where the attacks were planned: Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Lebanon (CNN). On the contrary, these four counties were left off of the ban. In fact, Trump has business interests with these countries. This shows that Trump put his individual interest before the nation’s security. In addition, leaving out the only countries that previously have attacked the United States reduces the entire purpose of the ban. According to the White House officials, the ban “does not apply to… refugees who have acted as aides and translators to Allied forces”(National Review). There was an incident, however, where a man, who was a translator for U.S., was prevented from entering America (USA TODAY).Around the world, the United States government is now

The article Trump’s Travel Ban by Patricia Smith compares and contrasts two very different viewpoints and opinions people have on President Trump’s temporary immigration ban. Now, this ban is bound to stir up some controversy, since it affects everyone in the U.S., and even those living in other countries. One group of people oppose this prohibition, while another side totally supports it. Many readers insist that the travel embargo “flies in the face of America’s history as a welcoming place for immigrants and as a beacon of religious freedom,” (Smith, paragraph 21).…

Moreover, immigration laws already disallow this type of discrimination in issuing visas. Secondly, the order affects religious freedom, including issues surrounding the ban on government establishment of religion. The executive order forbids admission of all refugees in those seven countries but asks the secretary of homeland security to “prioritize refugee claims” by members of a “minority religion” in a given country. This means explicitly deprioritizing Muslim refugees in majority-Muslim countries.…

George W. Bush followed in his father’s footsteps when it came to politics. He was determined to seek revenge for his father’s defeat by deciding to run for the presidency. His beliefs on government interaction consisted of depleting resources that would be used to fund programs by creating an enormous deficit that would be too large to recover in following presidential terms. Bush was an advocate of restoration of traditional and religious values in the United States and believed that the 1960’s decade corrupted American values. Instilled with conservative ideologies and an advocate of Ronald Reagan, George W. Bush, elected president in the year 2000, wanted “the nation to move in a conservative direction”.…

Did you know, since the year 2011 over 250,000 people have died in Syria due to the extremely dangerous conditions of the country? Americans should open their arms to these refugees and let them into our country. These people offer no threat to us, by turning them away, were encouraging the act of terrorism and it goes against our beliefs as Americans. One reason the people should let refugees in the country is that these people offer no harm to the citizens of America. There are a lot of people fleeing from their country because of the living conditions and how unsafe their home is.…

A Radical’s Radical Plan to Eliminate Radicals When I was younger, I remember many days where I came home from school and asked my dad “Why do we have to learn history. It’s not like it's going to help me at all when I’m a grownup.” I could understand why we would need to learn subjects like English or math, and their applications in the “real world”, but I was always stumped on history. Puzzling me, he would respond every time by saying “those who do not know history are doomed to repeat it.”…

One of the most tragic terrorist attacks to take place in the United States occurred on September 11, 2001. Days after these attacks, the standing president at the time, George Bush, declared that he was on a new mission to fight back against terrorism (“The War,” 2018). Since then, various laws and regulations have been put in place to help provide a feeling of security to American Society. Moreover, to aid in the relief efforts that follow events that are considered emergencies, such as terrorist attacks and natural disasters. Trump has named Syrians the biggest threat but many of immigrants coming from there are fleeing war. The article says later that the government might review some cases and allow travel to those who are “claiming religious persecution”. This is something many immigrants could lie about which would make the ban inefficient. Another expectation from the travel ban the article point out, was entry if a person “is deemed in the national interest”. So now it’s a pick and choose kind of scenario?…

Even with the recent terrorist events and the rise of ISIS, I feel that the US should still continue our plan to accept 10,000 Syrian refugees, but that we should be more cautious than we even planned to be. Over 90% of Syrian refugees have no affiliation or agreement with ISIS whatsoever, so in no way should we automatically assume that they are terrorists, because radicalization does not automatically associate with Muslims or Middle Eastern people. For most of Syria, they are innocently living in a war torn country and have nowhere to go. Though a few Americans claim that it “isn’t our problem” because Syria is so far away, it is our problem. We are part of the UN and our goal is to help others when we can, so why would we not help people who are in need when only a few have turned to terrorism.…
