Pastor Locke recorded the now-viral video after he visited a Target outlet in Mt. Juliet and was told that he could go to the bathroom that he “self-identified with.” In the clip, he blasted the store for opening doors for perverts and pedophiles to hurt children.

Rev. Franklin Graham has been voicing out against U.S. President Barack Obama’s order to give transgender access to public school restrooms, but now he has upped the heat in the LGBT debate by urging his followers to be willing to be martyred for their “intolerant” beliefs. In a Facebook message posted on Sunday, Rev. Franklin Graham asked his followers about the things or principles that they would be willing to take a bullet for. Citing the biblical story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego who chose to be thrown into a fiery furnace rather than bow down before King Nebuchadnezzar’s idol, the evangelist said Christians should be willing to martyr themselves or subject themselves to God’s wrath, Raw Story relays. “What would you take a bullet for?”…

An article was written by Michael J. Broyde, published by CNN, and titled “Transgender Bathroom Issue: A Solution?”, gives a synopsis of the issue of letting people go into the bathroom of their identified gender, rather than just their birth gender. The article opens by just explaining how that this topic got into the limelight when the supreme court took up a case of a high school student trying to use a boy’s bathroom, and whether or not that should be allowed (Broyde). Broyde then goes on to explain that in many religions, including his own, using the bathroom is seen as an extreme private time and shouldn’t be shared with anyone regardless of gender. Then, Broyde gives what he believes to be the best solution to this problem is to make…

On October 7, 1998, Matthew Shepard, a gay 21-year-old college student, was abducted by two men who took him to a remote area, tied him to a fence, severely beat him with the butt of a pistol, and left him to die in the cold of the night. Matthew Shepard’s death became one of the most notorious anti-gay hate crimes in America, and 18 years later, it wasn’t the last. June 12, 2016 brought upon a new era of anti-gay hate crimes when 49 people were killed and 53 were injured in the Orlando night club shooting. Following the shooting, a candlelight vigil was held in Salt Lake City to mourn the tragic loss of lives. At the vigil, Republican Utah Lt. Governor Spencer Cox delivered a speech addressing his personal thoughts on the act of hate that…

Those unprivileged, transgendered people, are further negatively affected and susceptible to violence by those with power. Additionally, “5 Times Transgender Men Abused Women and Children in the Bathroom” which clearly agrees with North Carolina’s decision, and “This is Not about Jim Crow,” which does not think this issue is that important and criticizes the federal government, are all operating under privilege because writers Amanda Prestigiacomo and David Harsanyi are not transgender. Their views are formed without the experience of facing oppression that a law like this creates. While in some…

For the Jane Elliot video, the scene I think I will remember is when the African-American man finally spoke up. He made a very good point about how he cannot pick his daughter up from school because he feared she would be treated differently if he did. This impacted me and I believe that it impacted many of the white participants in the video. I will remember this moment because it taught me how African-Americans feel about our society.…

Did you know that at Target men and women are allowed to use the opposite gender’s bathrooms and changing rooms if they claim to be that gender? Many people don’t know this surprising rule that threatens the safety of women and young girls all across the country. Many will say that it is fine to shop there as long as you don’t use the bathrooms or changing rooms, but I disagree. I find it hard to give your money to businesses who don’t respect people’s basic rights of privacy. You may think that I am falsely accusing them, but it doesn’t take a genius to see that times are changing along with people’s rights, values, and how people view one another.…

As many have heard, Target recently made the decision to open all bathrooms to gender neutrality so as not to exclude transgendered people. In doing so, they opened up the door for pedophiles to more easily target children. As such, because of ties against both the LGBT crowd, and sexual offenders, many Christians have said they would boycott Target. On the outside, that appears to make sense, however, it no longer does to me the more I think about it.…

The article also includes specific examples of intentional violence, including a situation where a transgender individual was told in public that they should be killed for being transgender (Kidd & Witten, 2007). Many people would argue that these acts are not any different from any other intentional violent crimes, that non transgender individuals face; which is true to an extent point. Non transgender individuals do also experience such violent acts, but there is a specific social disparity between their situation and a transgender individual put…

On November 8th, 2016, the transgender community’s worries about losing their hard fought acceptance into today’s society came to fruition. On this fateful day, the outcome of the United States’ election saw a Hillary Clinton upset and an unforeseen victory for, now president-elect, Donald Trump. Throughout Trump’s campaign, he openly discriminated and belittled the LGBTQ community, which was only further emphasized when he appointed anti-LGBTQ supporter, Mike Pence, as his running mate. His disdain toward President Barack Obama and his administration’s efforts to urge school systems to allow their transgender students to use bathrooms that conform with their sexual identity is a prime example of his stance on the very issues that trouble…

Transgenders face discrimination in many aspects of society in everyday life, law, and employment. There are many violent encounters faced by transgenders for example, in the past year “102 transgender people were murdered in 12 countries” simply because they were openly transgender (Machlitt). Transgenders also deal with wrongful incarceration; one of the biggest issues is being convicted for “manifesting” prostitution, which is if “somebody in public manifests an internet to commit or solicit an act of prostitution” (Machlitt). Laverne Cox once said that “[the ‘manifesting prostitution’ law] basically means that as a trans women of colour walking in a certain neighborhood, you can be arrested for prostitution.” However, the most prominent issues faced by transgenders is employment, “47 percent of transgender people report they were fired, not advanced, or not hired due to their gender identity” (Machlitt).…
