Managing for competitive advantage was a struggle for the Target Company. They could not keep up with or stay ahead of the competition. Target’s competition excited customers with great discounts, new “hot off of the shelf” items, and free shipping. Bright colored websites and creativity interested the customers and made them feel like their money was being well spent. Because of the lagging in this area in the stores, the competition such as Amazon managed to persuade Target customers to take advantage of the online sales. Target did not realize how much the worldwide web was on the move as fast as it was. Staying on the phone to place orders was a headache now of the past.
