At the toy store, I noticed that there were many toys that were particular symbols. For instance, the Barbie doll is considered as the symbol of beauty and sensuality. Kaya doll is considered as the symbol of the home keeper with a fat body and long hair. Addy has dark colored skin and “truly me dolls” with unique hair styles and skin shades as the symbol of equality. This symbolism is related to the Symbolic Interaction Theory. According to the symbolic interaction theory, each thing represents a separate symbol and is identified through that symbol, just as; guns are considered as a symbol of violence.

Since the guns are considered a symbol of violence, so as the toy guns considered. The social learning theory is related to crimes and effect of development in one’s self. Though, police and troops also utilize guns and weapons abut the first thought that came to my mind by looking at the guns was “crime. Thus, this theory seems to be the most related theory with guns. I believe that children are made used to of these symbols since their early childhood.
When they use such toys with written captions on it, they make up their minds that they belong to a particular gender and they have to act in a particular way according to their own gender roles. I remember no one taught me to act in a particular way according to my gender but the roles of my siblings, parents, and especially the statements written on such toy packs enhanced my understanding of my particular role. I found that each toy had a separate caption.
To sum it up, not only the toys but the cards also had separate captions and were designed particularly for the male child and female child. The colors, captions, symbols etc. provoke the understanding of gender socialization and help us to understand the particular gender roles in the society.
