An exceptional manager faces a variety of challenges in order to render success. The management team of Target is no exception. With regards to the problematic issue of showrooming, Target executives must realize and confront the challenges that hinder their business. These challenges include managing for a competitive advantage and information technology. (Kinicki & Williams, 2013). First of all, Target must find a way to stay competitive. They must supply their customers with goods or services more effectively than the competitors (Kinicki & Williams, 2013, p. 9). Customer satisfaction and loyalty is essential for a successful business; therefore, they must be responsive to the customers’ needs. “For consumers, showrooming is a godsend in this era of renewed frugality” (Banham, 2013). Hence, staying ahead of the competition by being innovative, providing quality products, and doing so efficiently and effectively is essential (Kinicki & Williams, 2013). Additionally, in an internet-enabled world through computers and smartphones, Target finds themselves facing the challenge of information technology. E-commerce is taking over because of its accessibility and ease of shopping, often times at a cheaper price (Kinicki & Williams, 2013). In the Target case study, management must utilizing their conceptual and human skills consistently. Understanding the world is changing because of technological advancements but possessing the ability to strategize and adapt to the changes will be advantageous for Target’s management. Human skills are necessary because they will need to motivate their team to develop ideas for the benefit of the company, as well as handling customers in a respectable way that retains their loyalty.
