There are four managerial functions, planning, organizing, controlling and leading (Kinicik & Williams, 2016 p.9). Within the Target case study, Mr. Steinhafel exemplified all four of the principles. This is supported within the case study, by him taking immediate action of how Target would resolve and restore the trust with consumers. First, he decided to fully disclosure the details of the breach followed by a plan of action and organized implementation of the recourse actions for the consumers affected. Secondly, he took control by asserting his plan of action even though Kinicki & Williams (2016) noted that it was high opposed by other executives within the organization (p.37) Finally, Mr. Steinhafel displayed leading principle by …show more content…
To date they have approximately 1800 throughout the United States (kinicki & Williams, 2016 p.38). Another standard method,is they have welcomed domestic designers to provide more affordable products for their customers (Design & innovation, n.d.). After the misfortune of the cyberattack, Target began upgrading their database and invested in the credit card technology for added security (Kinicki & Williams, 2016 p.37). Next when confronting the issue of diversity Target has partnered and sponsored a number of groups and affiliations of different ethnic and cultural groups. The have even adopted outreach efforts to provide to the community around them. Like many other companies Target has taken notice of the vested importance of sustainability. The company has introduced organics products and chemically controlled products (Sustainability, n.d.). They even offer recycling options within each store. Overall, target shows that they are a company that is innovative to contend with the challenges of management. Reported in 2016 the total sales for the 2015 operating year was $73.8 million, which was $879 million increase from the previous year (Target Corporate, n.d.).
