P’s story is distress. Ms. P may be feeling distress about how the abdominal pain is negatively affecting her ability to go about her daily routine. Another emotion that I may be able to observe from her story, is depression. Ms. P could possibly be feeling depressed that her abdominal pain has made her unable to sped time with friends and family. The way I would respond to this emotion is using NURS. With distress, I would first name what Ms. P is feeling as distress. Then I would ensure Ms. P that I understand why she may be feeling this distress. After this I would express respect for how she has handled the distress and acknowledging the plight that this has caused. At last, I would offer support for these emotions by providing tips to relieve stress in her life that could be worsening the effects of the abdominal
