A powerful African American Actress, known as Taraji P. Henson, is one of the few female actresses who is powerful, motivated, and focused on her career. Taraji has accomplished many things throughout her acting career, from being Grammy nominated, to Academy Awards. She portrays an image of success and accomplishment, but her life was not always one of success, she has experienced many hardships growing up. Taraji P. Henson, a woman who grew up like most, overcame many obstacles on her road to success, and has achieved greatness in her overall acting career.

Afterwards, she studied at North Carolina A&T University for electrical engineering. After a year at North Carolina A&T she transferred to Washington’s Howard University, where she found interest in theater. Where Taraji made the dean’s list, also won a scholarship funded by Debbie Allen and Phylicia Rashad, who are a part of the Howard alumnae.

When Taraji was attending Howard, she was in an abusive relationship which lead to her being pregnant with her first child. Her child was a boy, who name is Marcel. Giving birth to her son didn’t let it slow her down at all. She took Marcel with her to rehearsals and to work with her. Taraji graduated from Howard and made the decision the leave her unloving abusive relationship, because she stressed that was setting a bad image for Marcel. Along with that decision, she also left her hometown Washington, with only seven hundred dollars to move to Los Angeles.

“Once she settled in Los Angeles, Taraji took an office job which didn’t last for that long (Contemporary 2).” Marcel’s father died in the year of 1977, that is the same year Taraji took on two different parts in the hit series Smart Guy and Sister, Sister. While being in California Taraji
