Tapirs have a one of a kind appearance and special eating habits. These remarkable animals look like anteaters and once in a while people mistake them as pigs. Tapirs are hoofed mammals. Hoofed mammals are just mammals with hooves on their feet. One characteristic that they have, and numerous other animals do not, is their short and fleshy snout. Unfortunately, they are not known for their visual acuity and have poor eyesight (www.mnzoo.org/). The tapir diet consists of grasses, plants and fruits. They have been spotted dining under water and eating the aquatic plants. Interestingly, the tapirs favorite foods are bananas. At the zoo, the zookeepers will use bananas to reward tapirs, for positive behaviors (https://animal.sandiegozoo.org).
