Taoists believe that they should eat organic food products and to avoid any processed foods. Foods that are to be avoided as much as possible include red meats, tropical fruits, sugar and dairy products. These are hard to digest. Taoism usually encourages vegetarian meals, but Taoism encourages balance too, so there is Bigu and the Yin and Yang Diet. The Yin and Yang Diet is outlined with great precision. It tells how, when, where and what to eat. During the winter, Taoists would follow the Yang Diet. The Yang Diet contains higher calories and are either warm or hot. Food in the Yang Diet contain: Eggs, mushrooms, pumpkin, garlic, ginger, peach, prawns, beef and coffee. However, during the winter, Taoists would follow the Yin Diet. This includes tofu, bananas, cucumbers, cabbage, asparagus, seaweed, apples, oranges, wheat, crab and duck.
Taoists believe in balance. Taoists try their best to eat a balanced diet. This means not having too much carbohydrates, protein or sugar. They are very precise on when, where and what you eat, because what you eat becomes a part of you.
Every lunchtime, KGV students push and shove their way into the line in the canteen. This is very contrasting to the way Taoists would behave in the canteen. Taoists would wait in line and accept that they need to wait. They would be patient and wait instead of pushing their way to the front. They would be kind to each other, perhaps let someone else who is really hungry and desperately in need of food to go first.
