Taoist believes that the Hungry Ghost Festival which is on the 15th day of seventh lunar month is the birthday of Zhong Yuan Di Guan Da Di. It is said that Di Guan came to earth on this day to observe and forgive the sins that humans made. They believe that the gates of hell are open during the seventh lunar month and spirits and hungry ghosts would come to earth looking for food.
While Taoist believes in satisfying the spirits from hell, Buddhists believes that the seventh month is for celebrating filial piety. Buddhist celebrates Hungry Ghost Festival as Ullambana Festival. In the Ullambana Sutra, Buddha taught one of his disciples Mu Lian how to feed his mother who was reborn as a hungry ghost and also how to help his mother reborn as a
