Tanning beds are known to cause hundreds of thousands of cases of skin cancer, including melanoma, which is the deadliest kind (Tavernise). These types of skin cancers are most commonly found in teenagers due to tanning for many high school events, such as prom and vacations. If teens could see as much damage as they can see tanned skin, would they think twice about using tanning beds? Tanning salons need to be banned for anyone under the age of 18. The biggest argument against banning tanning beds is the fact that it is a free country, and teenagers have the right to choose what they want to do with their parents’ consent.…

Temkin is already bored of classic rock music but has no interest in listening to any new music. He worries the same will happen eventually with everything else that he could be interested in and would not want to try anything new. An interesting study showed melanoma is present the most in countries where chemical sunscreen is heavily advertised. According to WHO, UVR exposure is responsible for only 0.1% of all diseases in the world measured in disability-adjusted life years or DALYs.…

Psychologists have long classified happiness, or eudemonia as one amongst a few basic, primary emotions – happiness is our immediate, instinctive, and internal response to a situation. Yet, the texts we have studied share a common thread of discussing individual happiness in terms of the happiness of the collective. These authors come to the consensus that happiness product of service to the state, being virtuous, and keeping ones’ desires in check. In Thucydides “Pericles’ Funeral Oration”, Pericles uses the promise of happiness by way of battlefield honour to justify the deaths caused by the Peloponnesian War. Similarly, concepts of gaining happiness through service to the state are also explored in Plato’s The Republic.…
