Indoor tanning is a very popular practice in today’s mainstream society. Many people in America use tanning beds on a regular basis, and have for many years. However, there are countless studies that have been done on the use of tanning beds that connect them to skin cancer and many other diseases. So why is it then that people continue to use them when the dangers are right in front of their faces? Mary Adams, author of “The Invisible Burn,” conducted a study on college females and their perspectives on indoor tanning as well as the risks that it entails. In this study, 73% of participants said that they thought they were harming themselves by using the tanning beds, yet they continued to do it. There were also many responses to the study
