Like the Sui Dynasty, the Tang Dynasty approved and encouraged Buddhism in the early stages of their rule, however, Buddhism was soon alienated because of the disapproval of anything foreign and soon turned back to Confucianism.…

Ching predicts that there will a flood that year, and when he told that to Wang Lung, Wang Lung started to speak ill about the gods. This continuously occurred and Ching did not say a word, so when the flood came Ching would have blamed it on Wang Lung for talking ill about the gods. Also when Ching asks Wang Lung to stop talking ill about the god, and that they will punish him one day for what he was saying, Wang LUng did not care. This not only shows that he's a rich arrogant man who does not have time for his own business just because he has hired someone else to do it for him, but also that once he used to worship these gods, and he used to pray for a good harvest, but now instead of that he is talking ill about them. Back in the story Wang Lung was the one who went out with O-lan to get a portrait of the earth gods to put in his house, when he first got rich, but now just because he has more money than anyone in the village he treats himself as if he was god.…
