Lecture one of "Taming of the Shrew" covers how Shakespeare views London, the importance of religion, bear baiting, backstory of old London such as sewage pollution, a discussion of "Shakespeare in Love" and how the movie is different from actual London during the 17th century, the plot structure, how "Taming of the Shrew" is a mixture of genres. While, lecture two continues the plot structure of the triple action play, changes in identity and personality, relationship dynamics, the use of violence, characterization of Petruchio and Katherine, important themes that showed up throughout the play.

For example, when Lucentio's servant dresses up as Lucentio allowed the character to go beyond their standard behavior and immerse themselves into another role while getting a front row seat on how the other half lives. Another example is Chrisopher Sly, he questioned the lord and the servants at first but quickly gave into the lifestyle of being rich. An example of changes in personality would be Kate. Due to Petruchio strange 'taming' lessons, he was able to domesticate Kate. Kate is often described as a "wild falcon". Assuming that she is a beast that needs to be tamed. Petruchio even uses violence in order to pacify her behavior that everyone considered to be undesirable. For example, when Petruchio and Kate arrive at Petruchio's home after their wedding, he demands that the servants prepare a meal. However, he deems that food as being disgusting and unworthy for his wife so he decides to throw the food on the ground. This whole time Petruchio knows that Kate is hungry and whenever she tries to argue he finds a way to shut her down. Luckily, Kate was never struck by Petruchio but sadly his servants were not so lucky. Although, Kate never had to fear being struck by her husband she did have to worry about being ridiculed by him. This shows up several times throughout the play when they are interacting. For example, when Petruchio and Kate are traveling back to Kate's home; they spot an old man walking along the side of the road. Petruchio tries to force Kate into admitting the old man is actually a young maiden. However, when she finally caves in; Petruchio mocks Kate for saying the old man is a maiden.
