In the modernized version of taming of the shrew (10 Things I Hate About You), there are sisterly rival between Bianca and Kate. Sibling rivalry is also seen in The Lion King (1994) which is based on Hamlet. Although 10 Things I Hate About You is somewhat about sibling rivalry, it is unlike The Lion King, where there is the King (Mustafa) and the evil brother (Scar) who is power hungry. Even with Shakespeare’s work, some theme, characters, and other things in modern Shakespeare’s work will be altered so the audience is able to relate to the story. In She’s the Man (2006) which is based on Twelfth Night, which the main character ends up on an island because of a shipwreck. In the modern version, Viola ends up at her twin brother’s high school. Although both tales are equally unrealistic, the modernised version is much more realistic than a shipwreck. Also in BBC version of the Taming of The Shrew, even though forced marriage is not too common but compared to the original tale; Kate being sold off by her father; is much more realistic than the original.
