Tamalua Anteaters Essay

Physical Appearance:
Tamandua Anteaters are much smaller than Giant Anteaters, but are by no means small. They typically weigh about 2-7 kg, their bodies (head to rump) are 470-770 mm long, and their tails are 402-672 mm long. They almost look like skunks because of their distinct black “V” that reaches from their trunk all the way to their rumps. This black “V” creates the illusion of the Tamanduas’ wearing a vest. The vest stops at their tail, which is naked and has unusual black marks. They have unusual claws that range from 4-10 cm long with 4 digits and the middle digit is the longest, like ours, and the first digit is the shortest. Their front claws curve in and they walk on the sides of their hands. They use their claws for defense

Rhetorical Analysis of In the Time of the Butterflies Julia Alvarez, in her novel, In the Time of the Butterflies, emphasizes the humanity of the Mirabal sisters, that many portrayals of leave out, in favor of highlighting their heroism. In order to make the Mirabals more relatable and to show that there’s a hero hidden in all of us, she (Alvarez) shows us their weaknesses, their fears, and most importantly, their faults. Alvarez’s purpose in my selected passage (pages 108-112), is to show that even in a scene where from the outside, Minerva’s behavior would often be perceived as courageous (and probably a bit stupid), Minerva Mirabal is in fact, filled with a sense of dread, and doom. Alvarez opens Minerva's scene at the National Police Headquarters…

Tragelaphus angasii (Nyala) of the Bovidae family, known and familiar to southern Africa, can be observed and studied for the size of its elaborate, slightly twisted horns. This trait can be seen as an adaptative trait due to the variety of horn lengths and sizes in Bovids, as well as a heritable trait, due to the continual frequency in horns throughout generations, in the species of Nyala. The adaptivity and heritability of this trait can be analyzed through the natural history of the species of Bovids, observing how horns are used in combat as a sign of defense to other males of their same species (Lundrigan 1996). What is currently known on this species is how different lengths of horns are used in different forms of combat (Lundrigan 1996),…

All around the world, there are millions of different types of insects. Some of the insects are just here to irritate anyone and anything, while others have the ability to evolve into something even more terrifying. According to Weekly World News, there is a type of assassin bug that uses its prey’s carcasses as body armor. Looking at years of possible evolution, the idea of a bug using these masking techniques to avoid predators is not exactly an extraordinary claim. As far as I am concerned, any organism that has ever lived has always tried to come up with new ways to prevent from becoming another organisms meal.…

The Spanish invasion of Mesoamerica in the sixteenth century has been one of their most renowned victories. However, with a review of Restall’s work, as well as a closer look into the help that the Spanish had, reveals that the success of the Spanish was not merely their own. The Spaniards’ and natives’ common political goals, the natives’ army strength, knowledge of the land and the sharing of battle strategies and resources made the native allies a key asset to the conquest. The success of the Spanish conquest was largely dependent on the military support they received from their native allies; the Tlaxcalans especially, along with other native contributors, such as the Teocalhueycan and the Tepaneca.…

In The cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allan Poe vengeance is served viciously. Two Friends, Montresor and Fortunato destiny is determined in two ways only, revenge and murder. In the story Poe uses a feeling of betrayal to build a mysterious and seductive character before ascending to his remarkable strategy to a state of suspense. In fact, throughout the story, the reader slowly realizes that Montresor is an unreliable narrator; that whatever insult Montresor believes Fortunato committed is probably imagined or exaggerated. It's certain that Fortunato has no idea of Montresor's anger, and this makes the story even more tragic and frightening.…
