When getting grounded as a kid, the first thing most parents would take away was the TV or playing outside with friends (keeping in mind that my childhood was prior to the age of smartphones and Youtube). However, when I was young, my mom would ground me from reading. Before all of the children’s rights activists get up in arms about taking knowledge away, my mom was not being cruel; she genuinely knew that taking away reading was depriving me of my favorite activity. Why is all of this relevant? Simply put, that kid that was grounded from reading because it was the greatest thing to do is still kicking around in my head. I have always loved learning, whether through reading and learning new words or watching Bill Nye videos on a hot summer
