Taking a Stand on Justice Argument Essay Bishop Desmond Tutu a leader who stood up for the rights of south africans, once said “...if an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse and you that you are neutral that mouse will not appreciate your neutrality”. As if the elephant represents the educated or powerful , and the mouse represents the uneducated or minority. As society stays neutral even knowing that the mouse can't stand a chance against the elephant. It is important for people to take a stand on issues of justice in society, to change what’s wrong to right, to stand up for thoses who can’t stand up for themselves and to treat everyone equal no matter the race, gender or social class. Race, gender or social class should not matter by the end of each day, individuals are equal and all human. The government expects “everyone” to follow the laws no matter race, gender, or social class. According to Susan B Anthony in her speech “On Women's Right to Vote” she says “it was we,the people , not we the white male citizens nor yet we the male citizens but whole people” She is explaining that the law itself is written for everyone not just a surent race, gender or social class. As susan b anthony goes on to say “not to the half of ourselves and the half of our posterity but to the whole people-women as well.” Susan B Anthony states that it's not half of us, it's everyone as a whole women, minority and educated or uneducated people. People today should be just like Susan B Anthony and stand up for the unfair laws and unfair mistreatment of anyone. Anyones race, gender or social class does not change the fact that a person is human and deserves to be treated equal and …show more content…
People may say that consequences come to standing up, Gandi for example stated in his speech on “Expert From On Civil Disobedience” “There are two ways of courting injustice. One way is to smash the head of the man who perpetrates injustice and to get your own head smashed in the process”. Because standing up to what’s right comes with consequences could come with jail time or a beating. Another reason people may say is That the issues of justice does not affect them so they do not have to stand up. However according to Bishop Desmond Tutu “ if you are neutral in situations of injustice. You have chosen the side of the oppressor.” This means that people not taking a stand are staying neutral, are choosing the side of the wrongdoing and these people are just as guilty for staying neutral. People who stay neutral or are afraid of consequences they should either stand up for what is right or stay just as guilty as the oppressor. Therefore it is important to stand up for what is right on issues of justice in society
In conclusion,It is important for people to take a stand on issues of justice in society, To change what is wrong to right, to help those who can not help themselves , and to keep everything equal for every no matter the race, gender, or social class. There are still issues today that people can take a stand on such as poverty or civil rights. Knowing all of this it is everyone's

She is considered an anti-racist by many people, however, she is known to do racist actions such as teaming up with the Southerners to fight against black men voting. Nevertheless, I completely agree with you. As I stated in my post, Susan B. Anthony was torn between going up against Blacks or fighting for the white women vote.…

In order to grow one must be able to fully take responsibility for their actions. But for a whole group to thrive and progress everyone needs to be given the same rights and opportunities. If one person is denied access to a group or community that is not only affecting the person but also the community. Now looking at this one a bigger scale if a woman, who is more that qualified, and a man, who is mediocre, apply for the same job and the women is denied because of her gender, it is unlawful and inhumane. Voting is a constitutional right to everyone, and if someone were to be denied to vote that would be unlawful.…

Two specific speeches given by Susan B. Anothony and Emmeline Pankhurst, though given years apart, argue the same point; by denying women the same rights as men, society admits to viewing them as lesser humans. In Anthony’s speech, she claims that the Constitution was always meant to “protect the people in exercise of their God-given rights”(lines 25-26). She asserts that the government has betrayed their mission to defend the rights of the people by not allowing women those rights. By giving only men the right to vote, they’re only pushing the belief women are lesser, less as humans, unable to have the level of intelligence men do. She argues multiple times the point that women are humans just as men are, and yet people must be constantly reminded and goaded to treat them with the…
