Taking A Stand In History: Mother Teresa

The idea to use Mother Teresa as my topic on this project came to me a few days before she was to be canonized as a saint. I have always looked up to Mother Teresa and thought that she was a cool person. When I chose her as my topic I was not even thinking about the fact that she was going to be canonized a saint in the very near future by Pope Francis. She is now known as Saint Teresa of Calcutta.

Mother Teresa fits the theme “Taking a Stand in History” because she started her journey as a little nun in a convent and then went on to having hundreds of convents ,that she started to help the poorest of the poor, all around the world. She left the place she knew, the comfort of her home in Uskub, Ottoman Empire, to go live in poverty herself and help the starving and dying people of poverty. She has over 500 convents in 105 countries that are all working towards a common goal of helping those in need. Mother Teresa was a selfless woman that was determined to go through with the task she was given. She will be remembered for the rest of time as a woman that took a stand and made a difference in history. …show more content…
I did not know much about Mother Teresa or the things she had done in her life. Now that I have done research and looked for information on this topic I have realized how much she impacted the world. She helped people who didn’t have the strength to stand, get back on their feet and into the world again. Many nonprofit organizations and shelters have been opened by Mother Teresa herself, and after her death, by those that admired her and followed her. Also her Missions of Charity group has grown and is still growing to this day, with nuns that are devoting their lives to helping the most in
