“Johnny Cade was last and least. If you can picture a little dark puppy that has been kicked too many times and is lost in a crowd of strangers, you’ll have Johnny. He was the youngest, next to me, smaller than the rest, with a slight build. He had big black eyes on a dark tanned face; his hair was jet-black and heavily greased and combed to the side, but it was so long that it fell in shaggy bangs across his fore-head. He had a nervous, suspicious look in his eyes, and the beating he got from the soccer team didn’t help matters. He was the gang’s pet, everyone’s kid brother. Johnny saved Ponyboy Curtis (his best friend) from being drowned by the socs, but in the process killed a soc named Bob. Then he pushed Pony out of the way of the falling timber in the burning church. Johnny ends up breaking his back and getting severe third degree burns, eventually Johnny ends up dying. Johnny shows several character traits throughout the novel. Johnny is brave, loyal, and caring throughout the whole novel. Brave: ready to face and endure danger or pain, showing courage. First, Johnny is brave throughout the whole novel. Dally (one of his friends) was trying to pick up Cherry (a soc) and she declined.
