Have you ever questioned whether or not you are prepared to attend college? If your answer to that question is yes, then you should consider taking a gap year. A gap year is described as a year off of schooling between high school and college. Taking a gap year is more beneficial than going straight to college after high school because you will strive to do academically better, you will be better prepared for real world experiences, and you will be able to figure out exactly what you want to go to school for. First, taking a gap year before college is more beneficial than going straight to college after high school because you will strive to do academically better. By deciding for yourself when the right time is to go to college, you will feel more inclined to achieve your college goals. For instance, you will be able to take your education more seriously and actually attempt to get good grades. Randye Hoder, a writer for Time Magazine, reports, “Robert Clagett, who served as a senior admissions officer at Harvard and is also the former dean of admissions at Middlebury College, has found that those who delay a year before starting college have GPAs that, on a 4.0 scale, are 0.15 to 0.2 higher than otherwise would be expected.” This proves that a student who takes a gap year can still perform well in college even after a year away from the classroom.
