Punishment doesn’t means no learning, instead a person does learn something and as a result, it would decrease the likelihood of a behavior, and also is most effective if it is delivered immediately after the unwanted behavior. Skinner’s position was called radical behaviorism and the supporters of radical behaviorism argued that his theory was misunderstood and misrepresented; a concept that uses human cognitive ability can be found in creatures by using experimentation. Hopping pigeon showed that superstitious behaviors can be difficult to give, since it made the pigeon’s superstition made it think that it was under a fixed ratio, which it get pigeon more rewards if more it hoppes.…

The psychological findings and known information learned from class on consequences and the importance of parents remaining consistent with children disagrees with the opinion of the author from a parenting column in The News-Sentinel. This article discusses how consequences must be unpredictable to be effective with children. Throughout the entire article John Rosemond, the writer, fails to mention any scientific evidence supporting his accusations. Rosemond gives an example of some parents he knows and how they successfully use this technic on how to prevent immunization and the possibility that punishment becomes a game. This example is the “Consequence Grab-Bag”, put 10 consequences in the bag and when misbehavior occurs, children blindly…

Hammurabi’s influence on punishment and modern society When reading Hammurabi’s code and reaching rule #22: “If anyone is committing a robbery and is caught, then he shall be put to death. ”1 We may agree that it is or it is not the most suitable punishment; however, such punishment is considered just when the code is written to enforce the importance of these rules. In today’s society, the punishment for similar crimes became more lenient than the codes during Hammurabi’s rule as society has grown more merciful and not all crimes are considered equal. Today the code is applicable to the definition of the crimes only, but the punishments for them has shifted over time from the literal letter of the code to a more what we would call…

4.1.a. Non-progressive interventions/consequences In the article, Tips for Function Based Discipline in the Classroom, Gavoni (2016) characterizes non-progressive consequences by, “being the ‘same’ every time and are appropriate and function based that are related to the magnitude of the misbehavior” (para. 11). If a consequence is going to be affective in the classroom, it needs to be consistent; for this I believe the consequences need to be simple and are reflective of the behavior. Our classroom rules (listed in CMP 2.2.a.) are as follows; Respect your classmates in your words and your actions, listen when someone else is talking, come to class prepared with all required materials, and follow the teacher’s directions.…

In Operant Conditioning some factual points that stood out to me were two-forms of positive and negative reinforcement and punishment. With the use of positive and negative reinforcement to increase or decrease a behavior could be rewarding in molding behaviors in most cases. With the use of operant conditioning, this could also be a great tool to use outside of the classroom. (Positive reinforcement) If a Childs (Behavior) is good during class (Consequence) a parent could praise them on it and treat them out, etc., for such good behavior at school and then (future behavior) the child would continue their progress of behaving in class.…

Punishment verses Rewards The use of positive reinforcement has a much better outcome than if punishment were to be used, This was the idea of B.F. Skinner, a well-known psychologist from the 1970’s who enlightened the world with his behavioral techniques. Skinner believed that the use of positive reinforcement helped to shape a beings behavior verses punishment. He proved his theory when he trained his rats to push a lever by frequent and scheduled rewards and birds to peck plates using his positive reinforcement ideas. He wanted to take his knowledge of positive reinforcement and apply it to mankind and to improve mankind’s behavior and learning technique.…

Gender development explains the principle of how male and female identification is interpreted through experiences and interactions with social environment. The pervious statement stands as a major issue within the learning approach, and that the dissimilarities between females and males are required through learning from experiences and not biological development such as genetics. Explanations of the operant conditioning theory can explain gender development, which suggests that reinforcement and punishment craft the idea of gender development like all other natural human behaviors. Reinforcement proves to be the main concept in operant conditioning; two reinforces are presented: positive reinforcement and negative reinforcement. Positive…

Correlation, from chapter one, is a measure of the extent to which two factors vary together, and thus of how well either factor predicts the other. There are two different types of correlation, positive correlation and negative correlation. Positive correlation is when two things either increase or decrease together at the same time. A negative correlation is when two things are doing the opposite of eachother at the same time. For example, as one thing increases the other will decrease at the same time.…

What is “reinforcement”? There are two types of reinforcement: positive reinforcement and negative reinforcement. With positive reinforcement, you add something desirable in order to increase a certain response. For example, when a child uses manners, the parent rewards the child with praise or a sign of approval. The child will then do more in order to get that response from their parent.…

For case number one involving the boy named Bobby, the target behavior is to increase the frequency of achieving and maintaining a clean bedroom. Clean will be operationally defined as bed made, toys put away, trash in the trash can, no presence of dirty dishes or glasses, laundry put in the designated hamper, and no visible clutter on shelving, bed, and floors. The frequency of checks made by Mr. Kelly will be before school, an hour before established as bedtime, and two additional checks during the weekend days, roughly four hours apart. By targeting the room cleaning behavior, this should, by its nature, decrease the number of prompts given by Mr. Kelly.…
