The Film “Taken” by Michael Karounos tells us of Bryan, a retired CIA agent, who had lost his family due to his love for work. His excessive hours at work caused conflict within his marriage and home life. After retiring, Bryan moved closer to Kim, his daughter, as an attempt to reconnect. However, Kim got an opportunity to spend the summer in Paris with her friend. Bryan was against Kim going. But, Lenore, his ex-wife, made him feel bad for his years of not being around for his family. Bryan was relented and accepted Kim’s trip with several stipulations. This movie mentions issues like trafficking of women, Drugs, slave trade and the use of torture to extract information. The movie painted a picture of the real-life issue of trafficking. Women and children to this day are still being sold into slavery. The movie brings attention to this international issue. Like in the movie, European and American women tourists are surveilled by predators of the slave trade market. Women who are seen to be alone without male any male present are seen as a target. The use of different tactics to make captured women easier to control were horrific. In the movie, they showed the tool of making kidnapped women become addicted to drugs. The women under drugs are unable to escape and aren’t even coherent while their bodies are used. The virgins are auditioned off to be sex slaves at a higher price range. The message I got from Taken was that it’s very important to be cautious and aware of the people you choose to trust and share information with. In the movie, the girls met with Peter, a sex trafficker and trusted him with information about themselves. If the girls were more cautious, they might not have been taken so easily. The movie makes us more aware of the underground world and how easily you can become a part of
