“Take It” Commercial ads you see on TV are used to either persuade, inform, entertain, inspire, promote, and can be used for other things. Adidas’ ad called “Take It” is an inspirational commercial directed at young athletes telling them that, “Yesterday is gone. Today is up for grabs. Do something and be remembered. No one owns today. Take it (Adidas).” It explains that young athletes should never give up and take any opportunity that life gives you, no matter how small or how influential it may be. Adidas’ ad is effective by using rhetorical appeals such as Ethos and pathos to support the cause they are promoting. The ad uses motivational music and sports clips to grab your attention and keep your attention as well as using famous athletes to promote Adidas sportswear. Ethos and Pathos is clearly shown in the commercial. Ethos uses famous athletes to give credibility and build trust with the audience. Pathos is shown through the use of emotion using the music and dialogue of the ad to get the audience motivated and inspired. It is also used to gain credibility with the company, Adidas. The ad uses famous athletes to acquire these purposes. Athletes like John Wall, Lionel Messi, Derrick Rose and many other athletic superstars appear in this ad. All three of these athletes have one major thing in common and that’s being an Adidas sponsor. In fact, all the famous athletes in the commercial ad are Adidas sponsors. These are the faces that people recognize and look up to and respect, which is why the company wants them to use their brand.
