Tablets/Computers vs. Textbooks
Every student deserves the most effective teaching materials in classrooms around the United States. Textbooks are not supplying what students need to achieve success throughout his/her education; therefore, tablets/computers should be used over textbooks. There are multiple advantages to taking textbooks out of classrooms throughout the United States.
One of the most profound advantages with using tablets/computers over textbooks is the ability to record and monitor cheating in a more formal way. For example, a large variety of schools throughout the United States use programs such as GoGuardian to monitor students while on tablets/computers. All textbooks have the basic data needed for the qualifications of each class; as a result students/teachers miss out on the endless network of data outside of the textbook. “FCC Chairman, Julius Genachowski and Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan said, “too many students are using books that are 7-10 years old with outdated material,”” (ProCon 4). Tablets/computers have an enormous network that has the answer to any question an individual may have. Having a tablet/computer will help expand the knowledge on subjects to students and/or teachers. One example is students will be able to put more in depth research into their topic that he/she is learning, that is not shown in textbooks. Students will also have access to world events that happened moments ago or a few weeks ago. These events would not be displayed in textbooks that are in classrooms because textbooks cannot be updated as frequently. Being able to read about what is happening in the world will keep every individual up to date on events that are in a close proximity along with events in another country. The student will be able to receive correct information on any subject or question that individual is debating on. Students will not have to rely on teachers to answer questions that are not provided in the textbooks, but will be able to research and find the answer along with the reasoning behind their question(s). This will help students use their prior knowledge to think critically to understand the question or material the individual are looking at.
