When it comes to education, budgets are always a major concern. A survey recently taken by the digital book world website stated, “57% of the teacher responders selected ‘No budget to purchase applications/e-books’.” That means if a school even bought a tablet, how would they but applications on a tablet for learning? They would just have a plain tablet. There are some applications that are free, but out of 5,400 educational apps, only 1,000 are free. Costs are also a major issue when it comes to damage or disappearance. Theft is a major issue in schools and surrounding areas. If a student accidentally forgets his tablet or lays it down just for one second, somebody is going to take it. Having to replace a tablet every time it gets stolen could be costly. Children are often not gentle with things. They could throw the backpack down and the tablet’s screen could crack that easily. Tablets are very fragile and children are not gentle. A study conducted by the University of New York College of Optometry found that when people read on screens, they tend to stare more than blink. This means a person’s eyes dry out. When a person looks at a tablet, he/she looks straight ahead. When a person looks at a book, he/she is staring straight down. When a person stares straight down or kind of at an angle, the person’s eyes are covered more by the eyelid, but when a person looks straight ahead; her/his entire eye is exposed to air. According to the Everyday Health magazine, “Staring at a screen over a long period of time can cause a person to become nearsighted.” So, if staring at screen more than two hours a day puts a person at risk for computer vision syndrome, what can it do to a child who stares at a Tablet for eight or more hours a day? Computer vision syndrome could nearly blind a person. This is the main reason tablets should not be used in schools. Textbooks are harmless. The words in a textbook are positioned relative to the eye, the
