TRICARE: The Healthcare System

TRICARE (styled TRICARE), formerly known as the Civilian Healthh and Medical Program of the Uniformed Services (CHAMPUS), is a health care program of the United States Department of Defense Military Health System.

TRICARE is tree-option managed health care program offered to spouses and dependents of service personnel with uniform benefits and fees implemented nationwide by the federal government. It also covers retirees, reservists on active duty after 30 days, widows and widowers.

Active duty dependents members and their dependents ( spouse and children registered in DEERS) are eligible for TRICARE. There are several TRICARE program to choose from depending on status and location.
