With TRICARE Standard, beneficiaries and their eligible family members are able to utilize any physician that accepts TRICARE. Compared to the other plans, the out-of-pocket expenses can be pricy, especially considering that annual exams and routine care are not a covered expense.

TRICARE Extra

TRICARE Extra is comparable to most traditional preferred provider organizations (PPO). Whereby, beneficiaries have the option of choosing any provider outside of the network but acquiring significantly greater out-of-pocket expenses. In addition to the increased paperwork associated with this option. As with TRICARE Standard, annual exams and routine care are not a covered expense.
