An individual who qualifies for TRICARE is known as a beneficiary; the active duty service member is called the sponsor. A retired person from one of the careers in the armed forces is known as a service retiree or military retiree. Now as far as insurance goes when you get to the age of 65 you are eligible for Medicare which would be your primary insurance. TRICARE then is your secondary policy, a person who has Medicare part A must have part B also in order to still remain TRICARE eligible. There are some exceptions though: the sponsor is on active duty, the beneficiary is enrolled in the US Family Health Plan, The beneficiary is enrolled in TRICARE Reserve Select.
