The phrase “New Wave” was a blanket term given to a materializing film movement in Europe in the late1950’s and 1960’s, mainly in France, Italy, and England where an abrupt manifestation of brilliant films emerged. This movement consisted of two groups of directors, the Cahiers , majorly consisting of critics turned filmmakers and the Left Bank who consisted of individuals who went straight into filmmaking. Jean-Luc Godard was within the Cahier division. In collaboration with Francois Truffaut, Godard’s highly acknowledged film Breathless became a poster film for the French New Wave and experienced critical and financial success that enabled the movement to flourish. “New Wave filming techniques depended on more than shooting quickly on location,…

Documentary: Women during the Progressive Era During the Progressive Era, male figures such as Theodore Roosevelt and Upton Sinclair where the main focus as they did indeed change America for the better. However men should not take all the credit as women too brought change. Many people do not understand that women were the driving force behind most progressive reforms as they impacted the Progressive Era greatly by creating many luxuries that we take for granted today such as: clean water, hot lunches at schools, community playgrounds, fire codes for office buildings, public libraries and so on. As women began to find themselves excluded by active barriers of law and prejudice, many were unable to establish themselves as Physicians, lawyers, engineers, scientist, resulting in them taking a less prominent role in society. They begun to primarily work with other women or with children in jobs such as teaching or nursing.…

In magazines aimed at the general population, including Sports Illustrated and Vanity Fair, women are oversexualized with provocative slogans, little to no clothing, and electronically edited photos. This creates an apparent distinction between what the media reinforces as the ideal woman and what women really look like. Here, a phenomenon called the feminine beauty ideal arises. The feminine beauty ideal is "the socially constructed notion that physical attractiveness is one of women 's most important assets, and something all women should strive to achieve and maintain."
