In the TED talk video, “Danger of a single story” Adichie states “stories matter, many stories matter”. I also believe the stories matter; because your stories make up who you are. I also believe your stories can shape other people’s stories. When you are young your parents stories start to shape your story.
The story of who I am began on March 27th 1971, I was born at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eugene, Oregon to my parents; Roy and Virginia. I have only one sibling, my sister Cindy, who is 6 years older than me. Growing up my Mom and Dad taught me good manners, how to treat others the way I would want to be treated and the value of hard work. My dad worked for Weyerhaeuser in Cottage Grove where he pulled fresh lumber off an assembly line; which is known as pulling “green chain”. My Mom was a stay at home parent until we moved from Creswell to Eugene; then she went to work at Montgomery Wards and retired after 25 years.
In 1976, at the age of five, my family and I moved from Creswell to Eugene. That September I started first grade at Clear Lake Elementary. I graduated Clear Lake to begin at Shasta Middle School. At Shasta is where I met my best friend Scott. He has been like a brother to …show more content…
I attended church with my grandma Stella on every Wednesday and Sunday at the Church of God since the time I could walk. I met some very nice people and some very interesting people also. My junior year in high school; my Grandma came to live with my Mom, Dad and I because of health reasons and the fact she couldn’t live alone anymore. I remember a lot of great things about my grandma one being: not to take for granted what you have and love. She was always taking care of her family. Another memory of her was that my grandma could cook and bake. Maybe it was because she was a farmers’ wife with 5 kids, but she always made enough for 20 when there was only 4 of us at dinner
