My chosen career is to work in law enforcement and more specifically with the U.S Marshalls as a deputy. The job outlook percentage is fairly low for police officers at 5%. In 2012, there were 780,000 accounted police officers. The pay for this career is $56,980 per year/$27.40 per hour, depending on location, education background, and experience. One full year of graduate level study related to a field in law enforcement or other related fields such as Criminal Justice, Sociology. Ranking in the upper one third of your graduating class at a university and being a member of an honor society is considered superior academic achievement and boosts your application process. Physical fitness is a key factor in this field and you must be able to attend the training academy within 160 days of graduation. The hiring process may take from 9-12 months depending on the various assessment phases.

Working with TDCJ for another 5 years and building my experience will give me an added bonus against other candidates. I believe with my high GPA and my current membership in the NSCS are essential accomplishments. I have attended leadership conferences in the past and possessed strong qualities to help me advance in my chosen field, such as problem solving skills, crisis management, and defensive tactics. For further improvement, my physical capabilities will need to be worked on and I need to push myself past my current conditions to work exceptionally hard to meet the strict requirements of the US Marshall’s physical guidelines.
