The brochure for this program state that TASS will, "improve your reading, writing, speaking, and critical thinking". These skills are the skills that I most strive to improve on a consistent basis, due to their essential importance in most careers, university, and everyday life. I have attended many programs in the past few years; a common consistency among these programs that attracts me to them is that they deal with writing, speaking, and reading. For example, I attended a program at Duke University called the "Young Scholars Research Institute" that dealt with the social injustice present in the United States. During this program, we were instructed to perform research about an area of social injustice within our society and give a presentation about said topic. I chose to present my researching regarding the effects of poverty and social isolation the crime rates present in disadvantaged minority communities. With the TASS summer program and the YSSI, I see a commonality, and I want to further improve on the information and experiences that I received from that program. Other things that intrigue me about the curriculum is that focuses on improving critical-thinking, leadership, and skills relating to organization and planning skills. It would provide me with the personal experience outside of my normal range of comfort and community, unlike most of the knowledge that North Carolinian programs offer. I firmly believe that the TASS program will be the perfect experience to enrich my career skills and skills necessary to adult life. Lastly, I want to attend this program for the residential experience that I find is unique among the programs that I have demonstrated an interest in. I think that I will prove to be an asset to this program, and offer a unique perspective that cannot easily be provided
