MONDAY This morning I received a call from the subcontractor who is to provide the floating floors for the project. The subcontractor asked about how to view the most recent construction documents. I directed him to our file transfer protocol (FTP) site, which houses all of the documents that have been issued, approved requests for information (RFIs), and submittals. After checking the site to make sure the subcontractor was set up on the site, I was able to give him the information he needed to access the documents. This afternoon I reviewed the lighting fixture package that was submitted for approval.…
(Duke, 2004) Comprehension, language skills, content knowledge and academic vocabulary will increase with continual exposure. The students will have the opportunity to read a larger assortment of non-fictional genres on a variety of reading levels. The enhanced informational text library will increase student literacy achievement by providing students with ample and additional up to date resources to engage learning.…
Nonetheless, I didn’t forget how important reading and writing was. My purpose for improving literacy skills was to merely just become more intellectual. Becoming just an average reader or writer wasn’t good enough for me. So in my opinion, reading and writing is not only a good advantage in just school but also in…
The goal of a guided reading lesson is for the students to develop strategies they can apply for independent reading. It focuses on more than just the process of reading proficiently but allows for cross checking print and making meaning from the text (Gagen, 2007). The significant benefits of guided reading are establishing fundamental skills necessary for proficient reading, identifying weakness and strengths, improving attention to detail, building fluency, expanding vocabulary and developing reading comprehension. Guided reading is one of the most effect tools of improving the fundamental reading skills and developing a higher level of comprehension (Miller-Burkins, 2010). Rada, Jean, Sophia and Thomas would have definitely developed confidence in their literacy skills and further developed them throughout this lesson by using the guided reading, comprehension strategies and the four recourse model.…
Mary Beth Stevens suggests writing supports reading by asking students to draw upon common knowledge and thinking processes (2014). In the Texas Treasures Literature curriculum students continually respond to text through writing activities. At the end of each section they record their responses by writing a personal response. These responses require critical and higher order thinking skills because students answer open-ended questions and utilize summarization, inference and interpreting meaning skills. This allows students to explore their own thoughts and make connections to the text.…
Reading is such a focal part of my life that I sometimes lose sight of the fact that many people can't do it. Aside from the more practical and obvious benefits of a more literate society, those who can read and write suddenly have a way to change their lives and their world. Literacy is a prerequisite to an education, and receiving an education is a way for those living in poverty to change their…
Hello Professor Rosen, I am in your Monday Wednesday Psychology for Women class and my question is pertaining to the Implicit test that we have to take. Is it the Implicit test posted by Harvard? If that is the right website which test do we have to take on the site? there are a number of different test listed: skin-tone IAT, Age IAT, Weight IAT and many more.…
Literacy Autobiography Reading has always been a subject that I have struggled in and so has many others. Not the understanding part, but the paying attention to whatever is on the page and what is happening part. It has always been something that I need to figure out, and I am still figuring it out to this day. Ever since the first day of kindergarten, I have been terrible at writing, reading, and most anything related to the English subject.…
The Dreaded Reading Class It was the first day of third grade. I jumped out of my moms car after kissing her on the cheek and hearing the routine “have a good day”. Jordy, my sister, and I walked in together reminiscing the previous years at Rising Star. Everyone was dressed in their favorite outfit to impress all their friends. Jordy and I fashioned our Limited Too dresses and sparkly back packs.…
It enables you to think for yourself and think with importance, on a philosophical level. In Fahrenheit 451, Guy Montag transitions from being another shallow citizen to someone who knows how to think, someone who acknowledges the world around them and doesn’t live in denial. In the real world, in a society where reading is valued, we read for leisure or for a school assignment or because somebody told us to, but we still read to gain knowledge, and to expand our minds and become deeper and/or better…
Over the first semester I feel I have been appropriately challenged in the area of writing we have done this year. I learned many new skills, but the most important one involves English and how to write properly. As for the first writing, I really did not understand what was right and what was wrong. Because I never paid close attention to specific rules in how to write. I truly believe it has been hard for me.…
The story that I want to share is, the basic yet often talked about transition, between high school and college. High school was so much easier for me back then, you could get away with so much more and not worried about homework as much. Now in college, it feels like I’ve sat down for the longest, scariest, most agonizing rollercoaster of my life. English in high school wasn’t much of a concern to me. Teachers didn’t persist on teaching students good writing habits or the depth of what writing can go into, like they do in college.…
This course has improved my reading, writing and research skills to the point that I now have some skills in the area. Through making me pay close attention to all of the little details that I would normally not notice, my reading skills have improved to allow me to find important information within the text that I would normally not notice. I’ve improved my writing skills by becoming aware of the vocabulary and grammar that I would use within an essay. My research skills have gone from non-existent to knowing something about it.…
Reflection When signing up to take the Final Project Course this fall I was extremely nervous and not excited to start. Walking into the first day of class and learning more about what the final project would entail, I did feel slightly better but still scared that it was going to be too overwhelming and hard to complete by myself. Luckily, the individual meetings and emails with my professor made everything much more clear and inviting. These final project meetings were very helpful in terms of receiving constructive criticism and then going back home to make changes to the paper.…
The grow your skills and to gain a better understanding of yourself as a teacher, reflection is essential. Reflection allows teachers, to look back at lessons, weeks, terms or even years and view what went right and what went wrong thus allowing teachers to start to think critically about what is best for them moving forward. Reflection is crucial to the success of a student teacher, as without it they will struggle to grow, recognise their mistakes and adjust their methods in the future. When reflecting on my own placement and in particular on the above lesson, I have learnt a lot about myself and what I need to do to become a quality teacher.…
