While reading and exploring Ad Age, I came across the article “Why T-Mobile Bought Three Minutes of Ads in Super Bowl LI.” What caught my attention with this article was my interest in the advertisements T-Mobile put together. I usually am not a huge fan of celebrity endorsements, but I found the two commercials with Justin Bieber and Martha Stewart absolutely brilliant. Both commercials included the celebrities in a comical and witty matter that helped to make the commercials both entertaining as well as enjoyable to watch. Super Bowl advertisements are famous for their elaborate productions and are often are more talked about than the event itself. These commercials have become cultural touchstones, but the advertisements have one job and that is to convince a potential customer to buy or use a company’s product or service. The Weight Watchers advertisement is a perfect example of how effective advertisements can be in only a few short seconds. What this commercial is really selling underneath its veneer of supposed helpfulness is emotional manipulation as it preys on people’s insecurities regarding their weight and shame them for eating food that may not be considered healthy. The primary audience for this kind of ad are people who emotionally vulnerable and…

There are many companies out there in the world that will employ some of the most devious advertising techniques just to make you want to buy their product. These techniques can utilize some very harsh and bold statements to grab your attention and pull it in so you take a closer look at their product or service. For example, a Verizon ad that I found states “Faster than a shopaholic riding a racehorse through a shoe sale after doing a triple shot of espresso,” that makes a bold statement that gives many people an interesting mental image. At the bottom of the ad there are words such as “Quick. Silver.”…

The issue focused on the Adia advertisement was initially anti-racism awareness, therefore, the purpose was to shed light on how people of color are still demanded to allow their normalcy to be what is preferred, which is being as replica to Caucasians as possible. That same ideology was used against the company to give the perception that it is favored more if who you really are is not shown but who you should be. Aida’s tagline “there are times you wish you were a were a temp”, is an attempt to bring consciousness to the vile discrimination and/or prejudicialness often faced in the workplace that make employees rather not work or suffer in silence. The tagline and the original quote, “I just love my boss’s racist jokes, some of them are funny”,…

Advertisements in modern media strive towards not only selling a product, but making it emotionally appealing to the audience as a means to attach the product with desire. This longstanding tactic has been used by big companies, like Apple, to sell medicore products. Advertisement directors have taken notice that smartphones have created this utopia effect on millennials - creating a bubble of comfort in a portal metal box that tells them whatever they want, whenever they want. It creates a cave like effect, deceiving the users into depending on their phone to truly see reality. The advertisement for a smartphone like Apple’s iPhone 6s exudes to the security of ignorance.…
