Systematic Slavery Within America

Even though we live in the year 2015 it is discussed that slavery is just part of our history. People fail to realize that slavery still occurs. It 's not just part of our history because many people still suffer from slavery. Slavery is a legal or economic system in which fundamental source of property law applies to humans so that people can be treated as property, and can be owned, bought and sold. The United States established restrictions making it illegal to educate slaves and color lines were habituated to systematically oppress those who were forced into slavery.

The article "Drawing the Color Line" discusses the occurrence of slavery and its development throughout history. "There is not a country in world history in which racism has been more important, for so long a time, as the United States. And the problem of 'the color line '" (Zinn, 1999). Howard Zinn is trying to bring to our attention that The United States has always had this developed "color line" that assisted establishing racism and slavery. Even today "color lines" play such an important role in America, we see a lot of this within the media. Zinn also mentions "the system was psychological and physical at the same time. Slaves were taught discipline, were impressed again and again with the idea of their own inferiority to "know their place," to see blackness as a sign of subordination, to be awed by the power of the master, to merge their interest with the…
