Systematic inadequacies in the social structure specifically on the macro level have pushed the impoverished to the point where there is no hope for tomorrow. The fact that I was always the person who my friends sought out for advice, and because for the most part I gave them good advice that helped them overcome many barriers I felt qualified me to become a successful social worker. The advice I would give my friends would be based on what I would do given their situation. The reality is I don’t really know if the advice I gave was really effective. What this impact it will have on my practice as a social worker is in my approach to help. Confront all racial and cultural, dilemmas; which requires me to take the time out to learn as much about the culture, the ethnicity, the community the client comes from, and the courage to step aside if its outside of my scope. In other words, if I know for a fact that there is no way I am going to be able to relate with the client, and I will lack the sensitivity. Culture should not be considered separate from the rest of human existence. Neither should it be viewed apart from counseling (Moodley, 2010).
