Systematic Desensitisation: A Case Study

A client would work through systematic desensitisation with a therapist by starting off with learning how to relax. The therapist would help her client to relax his muscles so that he knows what the difference is between having truly relaxed muscles compared to tense ones. The client would talk to his therapist about what makes him feel anxious and would then give his therapist a list of situations in order of the least fearful to the most fearful one.
Once the client has been trained on how to relax the therapist can start the systematic desensitisation process. The client will need to get comfortable in a chair and then the therapist can start to describe his fears to him starting with the least anxiety producing one. If the client does not
