It seems clear that the system and perspective of the United States are more ideal for companies, students and graduates, and economy. Then, why the difference still exists and in fact, getting worse? Do business professionals in Korea believe this system is good and fair enough to leave it as it is? As I stated, I went back to South Korea during the summer. However, going back to Korea during the summer was not part of my summer plan. I suddenly decided to go back during final exam period for 2017 Spring semester because I got a call from my mom that my grandmother is in serious condition. She passed away two hours before the flight to South Korea and the first thing I did in Korea was having a funeral. After everything was over, I was re-searching

For a start, chapter five was very informative and a pleasure to read. It reconnected all the dots that steered me in the direction/profession of social work. As Rhodes & Rhodes (2015), states “Social class is to rank with others in terms of wealth, power, and prestige. This ranking separates people into different groups that experience different opportunities in life and different ways of looking at the world” (pg. 225). With that being said, this reignites the topic of homelessness that I chose for my term paper.…

Many people view the American education system as mediocre, or not good enough, and Amanda Ripley is no different. While reading The Smartest Kids in the World, I encountered a passage by her that stated that by allowing less distinguished schools to train teachers, Korean teachers became less prestigious and less effective. She then quoted, and agreed with a Korean policymaker who stated that “The quality of an education system cannot exceed the quality of its teachers”. During my sophomore year in highschool, I couldn’t have agreed more with this statement.…

America itself is unique in the fact we don’t go with one set of values and most are usually not based off philosophical teachings. America and Korea differentiate culturally with America being an individualistic society and Korea more focused on a collective society.…

Solution Focused Approach The solution focused approach falls under the wide branch of humanism “Its roots are in Systems Theory which posits that individuals who are in frequent contact will unavoidably influence each other.” (Lyons, Ford, & Arthur-Kelly, 2011, p. 25) Unlike many of the other humanist theories the Solution Focused approach does not focus on the individual as a problem but rather as a solution; the belief being that the problem comes from the individual’s interactions. To assess a problem within behaviour the student works with the teacher and their peers to assess the incident that resulted in the misbehaviour.…

When Shawler arrived to Korea to work at his new position in Essilor, he leveraged on his previous experiences and attempted to implement his old approach of hiring employees based on their qualification such as the ability to speak English in order to accomplish the goals that he had envisioned. However, the approach that Shawler had utilized in the past was different for the Korean market because unlike other countries that Shawler had dealt with, the Korean workplace tend to be more collectivistic and have larger power distance. Majority of collectivistic and hierarchical workplaces, such as South Korea, tends to rely on loyalty as well as long-term commitment to the job and employees are more prone to instructions given from higher ranking people in order to accomplish and work effectively (The Hofstede Centre 2015). Since Shawler is from US which is considered as an individualistic and low power distance society, his strategy was to pay more and hire employees based on their merits and thus assumed that they could take initiative to help the business grow (ibid). Nevertheless, this strategy for other team members and S.J. Lee were unfamiliar because several employees were less initiative as well as that there were workers that worked in the company for more than a decade and they were paid relatively less than the workers that Shawler wanted to hire, therefore…

Under the socio-cultural lens the focus is on how the society affects the client. C. Wright Mills (as cited by Rogers, 2016) created the term sociological imagination, which is an important aspect of the socio-cultural lens, “to describe the relationship between the individual and the wider society” (p.106). Additionally, culture has to be taken into consideration because it is intrinsically related to social aspects that affect clients. Rogers (2016) mentions that “There is no universally accepted definition of culture; culture can mean different things to different people. In fact, definitions vary depending on the discipline and theory from which they originate” (p. 130).…
