Congress should support legislation to allow Syrian refugees into this country. One might argue that with the possibility of terrorists entering the U.S. and the fears associated with the number of refugees coming into the country why this legislation should be upheld. The United States of America is the land of opportunity to everyone who enters here legally. We are a people who have built our country over hundreds of years based on strong principles. It is simply the right thing to do: to help those in need. More specifically, the Syrian refugees should be welcomed into the U.S. because: 1) not all refugees are terrorists, 2) we need to set an example for the rest of the world and 3) we do not want to repeat …show more content…
Unfortunately, the fear of this occurring in the U.S. caused “many governors across the country to move to block the arrival of new Syrian refugees” (Christmas Wish). We shouldn’t let the terrorists take away opportunities from people like the gentleman from Homs, the little boy who sells tissues to help his family pay for food, or the widow whose husband died to fight for their freedom. This is America not France, and we should be able to find a way to let the refugees in while implementing ways to secure the safety of Americans. It is a human right that our country was born from is that everyone is entitled to “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”. Not everyone has what we have in this country. Some people are born into a country under no fault of their own that mistreats their people. We should want to figure out a way to free these people who are in need. Unfortunately many will ruin it for the rest of them. The United States is a powerful country that many developing countries look up to. It is in our human nature to revolt against oppressive governments. This country has been known to encourage the spread of democracy throughout the world. We have an obligation to live up to what America stands for and to set an example for those around us who are watching. If we were to refuse the refugees coming into this country, not only would we be turning our backs on people who look to us for help, but we would be ignoring our own
