Dear Year 7 at Shore
My name is Muhammad Shafik and I am being persecuted in Syria. The terrorist group IS attacked 35 Christian villages in February 2015 alone, abducting over 250 people and driving 3,000 others from their homes; the savages later executed three Christian hostages. It is impossible to be a Christian in IS-controlled areas.
Last week IS stormed our camp in the mountains and took my family. They burned down the village and set the adults on fire! Please do anything to help save us we need it so desperately as it helps to rebuild our lives. Please don’t ignore it, Christians are being persecuted all around the world.
Just the other week, ISIS released a video depicting masked men beheading 21 Egyptian Christians. This is one of many brutal challenges we as a Christian based community have to face! Nobody in IS controlled areas is safe and here's the thing the persecution doesn't begin and end with ISIS. It's occurring in other regions around the world as well. Since the start of the civil war, over a million Christians have left Syria. Many Christians are attacked, abducted or killed. Christians are often a target for kidnapping as they have a reputation for being wealthy and supporting the regime.

Without a unified organizational structure, the severity of ISIS rule can vary from place to place. John (a pseudonym to protect his identity) decided to remain in Syria when ISIS took control of Raqqa. He speaks about witnessing countless horrors including having to walk past the heads of beheaded martyrs whose crosses were hung from their ears. His hope is for his country to be filled with Syrian Christians once again who were able to live without the daily threats and horrors that are tearing up those people and country around

The world in crISIS Graeme Wood, a contributing editor of The Atlantic, describes in detail the underlying ideological and religious thinking behind Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, also known as ISIS. The world has become a place of utter chaos, a place where you constantly have to look over your shoulder, that is not any way someone should live. The world took a radical turn back in 1933, if the date sounds familiar, it should be. That is the date when the horrific events of the Holocaust began. Thinking back to all of the innocent people that lost their lives and didn’t have a clue what was happening should make a person feel the least bit angry, or wish that people had gotten more involved sooner. All of or most of the survivors (while it was still going on) tried to warn people, but people wouldn’t listen and they stayed silent about it.…

The Making of the Knights Templar “Like going on pilgrimage, to which they were often likened, crusading was an act of Christian love and piety that compensated for and paid the penalties earned by sin” (Richard Abels, par. 1). During the Medieval Time Period, the Christians would take pilgrimage to the Holy City of Jerusalem until it became increasingly dangerous as the Muslim Wars of Expansion threated the Holy City of Jerusalem. This sparked the Crusades: a series of Holy Wars where the two religious groups fought for the Holy City. Because of these “Holy Wars”, an elite group called the Knights Templar were created. Nearly a thousand years ago, religions clashed and changed the world in a different way.…

From Emperor Nero blaming Christians for the fire on the Roman Empire in 64 AD to Jesus Christ himself dying on the cross, Christians have been singled out and persecuted for their faith for thousands of years. A journal published by the Oxford University Press about the early Christians of the Roman Empire states that, “The normal charge against Christians was simply “being Christians”: they are punished, that is to say, “for the Name” (de Ste. Croix).Today, there is still unjustified persecution of Christians around the world, as college students are being murdered in mass shootings after answering “yes” to the question “Are you a Christian?”. Throughout history there is a total of 70 some million martyrs and, between 2000 and 2010, about…

The newspapers today show the Syrian people being persecuted, which means subject to hostility and ill-treatment, especially because of their race or political or religious beliefs. Unfortunately, today different groups of people have been persecuted for a long time like the Jews. The Nazis who came into power in 1993, believed that Germans were racially superior and that the Jews were inferior, and a threat to the German racial community. This would lead to the Holocaust. In Maycomb County, there is persecution as demonstrated by the criticism of Atticus Finch and the treatment of Dolphus Raymond.…
