Throughout the five years, over 400,000 men, women and children have died and 13.5 million are in need of aid as well as 5 million refugees . This civil war started five years ago, there are many reasons as to why the Syrian civil war started. But, the main catalyst for the revolution was after seeing multiple successful rebellions from their neighboring countries such as Libya and Iraq. However unlike the other countries their ruler Bashar al-Assad refuses to back down to the Syrian people.Syria is ran by a minority party. Bashar al-Assad is a alawite, they are a combination of Sunni and Christian beliefs , they make up 10% of Syria and are considered extremist and aren't liked by other muslims and sects, yet the government is full of alawite muslims. At first the protests were peaceful, however although these protests were peaceful, the government still sent police to attack the protestors. This was when human rights violations began, attacking people's freedom of speech. As time progressed and people refused to back down, the government as well refuses to back down this lead to five years of chaos in Syria. As for Syria, the United States is contemplating whether or not they should help out the Syrians and fight Bashar al-Assad. The reason being that Russia is an ally of Syria. If the U.S. was to try and take down Bashar al-Assad, Russia will try and step in causing the U.S. and Russia to go to war, which can be very dangerous. Therefore, because of this the most the U.S. is doing at the time is sending aid to the Syrian people. As for Ethiopia, the United States hasn't taken any steps to help end the situation in Ethiopia. President Obama’s last visit to Ethiopian upset the people of Ethiopia because he failed to address the unfair practices instead he oraised the system which upset the Ethiopians.Instead the lack of regard the U.S. has shown has caused an Ethiopian runner Feyisa Lilesa to speak out and ask the U.S. government to help out his people in their protest for equality against their government
