Synthetic marijuana, also known as “Spice” or “K2” first became available in the U.S. in 2008. Originally marketed as an incense in labeled “not for human consumption”. Spice or K2 became vastly popular with high school students and young adults due to how it was easily and legally obtainable from a variety of convenience stores, smoke shops, and online that is until July 2012 when a national ban was enacted against the sale of synthetic cannabinoids in the U.S.
