Synthetic Gum Base

Decent Essays
Following World War 2, analysts discovered how to make an artificial (synthetic) gum base to replace the natural one. Moreover, the new and improved gum base was basically rubber that releases flavor into one’s mouth while they are chewing it. Synthetic gum bases are made from artificial polymers, a strand of molecules that encompass hydrogen and carbon, meanwhile since the polymers are not natural, the gum base has better aspect and is more pure. Information on synthetic gum base is not released by gum companies, yet we have learned that not only is the base made up of polymers, but also waxes, fats, elastomers, and emulsifiers.

In the experiment I conducted we were trying to figure out in what types of solution would the gummy bears expand the most. The hypothesis I came up with is if the gummy bear is in different liquids then it will get bigger in size. Two trials were tested because the first time we did all the gummy bears dissolved and we were lead to believe the we left them in the liquids too long. They made the liquids almost feel like jell-o texture and we don't know if they expanded before they or not because they were completely dissolved when we checked back on them.…

The purpose of the experiment was to investigate the effect of the different liquids on the gummy bears. We saw how the gummy bears change color, shape, and size. What my hypothesis is that I thought all the gummy bears were all gonna shrink, but what actually happened was all of the gummy bears except for one got bigger. I think everything was fine in the experiment so nothing went wrong. Now that we experienced the experiment, I think I still have some questions like “What will happen if you leave the gummy bear inside the water for like more than one day?”…
