For the synthesis of P2, a mixture of 1 (500 mg, 0.553 mmol), 2 (252 mg, 0.553 mmol), 3 (760 mg, 1.105 mmol), tris(o-tolyl)phosphine (P(o-tol)3) (13 mg, 0.044 mmol), and tris(dibenzylidene acetone)dipalladium(0) (Pd2(dba)3) (10 mg, 0.011 mmol) in anhydrous chlorobenzene (21 mL) was charged in a 100 mL round bottom flask. The resulting reaction mixture was heated at 150 °C under stirring for 3 days. Compound (2) (38 mg, 0.083 mmol) was added and stirred at 150 °C for 1 h. To that 4-bromobenzotrifluoride (25 mg, 0.111 mmol) was added and stirred at 150 °C for 1 h for end-capping. Next, the mixture was poured in methanol (200 mL), and the precipitate was collected in a Soxhelt thimble filter. The precipitate was then extracted with methanol, ethanol, …show more content…
Similar method was used for the synthesis of the poly(4-(4,8-bis(5-(2-ethylhexyl)thiophen-2-yl)benzo[1,2-b:4,5-b ']dithiophen-2-yl)-8-(5-(2,6-didodecylbenzo[1,2-d:4,5-d ']bis(thiazole)-4-yl)selenophen-2-yl)-2,6-didodecylbenzo[1,2-d:4,5-d ']bis(thiazole)) [P2] polymer by replacing the 2,5-bis(trimethylstannyl)thiophene with 2,5-bis(trimethylstannyl)selenophene, as shown in Fig. 1. The number-average molecular weights (Mn) of P1 and P2 were 15,710 and 26,220, with polydispersity indexes (PDI) Đ of 1.24 and …show more content…
2c. The UV–vis spectra reveals that the absorption maximum (λmax) of the both polymers P1 and P2 are same at 320 nm, but the absorption onset (λonset) of the both polymers P1 and P2 are different. The λonset of P1 and P2 was 547 and 578 nm, respectively. Fig. 2c shows that P2 polymer red shifted with increasing intensity, as compared to P1 polymer, indicating that P2 polymer has more possibility to harvest the available photons from solar energy. The UV–vis spectra study also reflects that the change in the substitution of sulfur in thiophene with selenium is an effective method to extend the absorption range to longer wavelengths, and this study also supported the previous

Typically, c-PEO-Br (0.55g) and NaN3 (0.73g) were dissolved in 20 ml DMF in a flask. The mixture was reacted at room temperature for 24 h. After the reaction is complete, the mixture was filtered through a column of neutral alumina with dichloromethane as eluent. The solution was then concentrated under reduced pressure to remove the solvents, and finally precipitated in cold n-hexane for three times to obtain the purified product c-PEO-N3. Goals The goal of the lab was to investigate the properties and structure of an unidentified compound that was discovered in a local landfill. The group was called in to help determine the chemical and physical properties of the compound so we can let the people of the town know so it can be taken care of properly with or without further precautions to be taken. Another goal of this project was to devise the synthesis of the unknown compound. Experimental Design In order to determine the correct identity of our unknown compound, we first started with a couple preliminary tests, which include physical state and smell.…

In this experiment, the reactivities of various halogenoalkane, 1-bromobutane, 2-bromobutane, 1-chlorobutane, 2-bromo-2-methylpropane, and 1-bromo-2-methylpropane were tested using two different solutions, NaI in acetone and AgNo3 in ethanol. The rate of reaction, the carbocation stability of each substrate, and the identity of the leaving group could be used to determine the mechanism of a reaction. With NaI in acetone, primary halides, such as 1-bromobutane and 1-chlorobutane were the most reactive substrates, when bromine or chlorine is ionized. Also, the influence of a strong nucleophile (I-) and the steric hindrance as the main barrier to prevent or retard the reaction, make this reaction a second order-Sn2 mechanism. With AgNO3 in ethanol,…

The resulting mixture was quenched by adding water and extracted with ethyl acetate (100 mL). The combined organic layers were washed with brine, dried over anhydrous Na2SO4, and filtered. After removing the solvent, a dark red solid was obtained,…

Anisole is activating. The reason it is considered to be activating is because of the electron pairs on the ether molecule. Furthermore, the electrons activate the benzene ring which makes it more reactive. On the other hand, if benzoic acid replaced anisole in the experiment, it would act as a deactivating group. Carboxylic acid pulls electrons from the benzene ring acting as a withdrawing group which causes a slower reaction with the increase of stability and decrease in reactivity due to resonance.…

The purpose of this experiment is to determine the optimal absorption of different solutions, specifically the Chloroplast extract (chlorophyll a and chlorophyll b) and Fast Green solution using the technique of spectroscopy. The following graphs and data will be used to identify the concentration of the given unknown solution #294. Spectroscopy is a process whereby a spectrophotometer is used to determine the absorbance levels of different solutions at different wavelengths (Pettruci et al., 2011). Essentially, it studies the area of science involving the visible light spectrum, which the a portion of the electromagnetic spectrum the the human eye can see (Mantele, 2016). This spectrum is made up of range of wavelengths (400 nm - 750 nm),…

Dr. Andrzeij Sygula Research Dr. Sygula research is on polycyclic hydrocarbons called buckybowls. Due to their non-planarity, these moleules resemble fragments of fullerene, hence the name buckybowl. The smallest buckybowl to date is coronnulene, a non-planar hydrocarbon made up of five overlapping 1, 3-cyclohexadiene rings figure 1. The synthesis of coronnulene in lab is very challenging primarily because of the stress associated with the non-plannar molecule. Dr. Sygula’s lab accidentally came across of new method of synthesis.…

    6. If t-butyl bromide was used as a substrate instead of t-butyl chloride the reaction rate would stay the same. The mechanism will still be SN1 reaction for the same reasons as t-butyl chloride. Such as, t-butyl bromide is tertiary alkyl halide like t-butyl chloride which will also favors SN1 reaction when reacted with water, a weak nucleophile. It will also form 30 carbocation which are more stable in SN1 reaction mechanisms as having more R groups (CH3 in this experiment) on the carbon with the positive charge will donate some electrons through hyperconjugation, as carbocation are electron-deficient p-orbital which could be stabilized by hyperconjugation from adjacent substituents.…

Scheme 1 represent possible reaction pathways of the conversion of DPE under the studied reaction condition (PCO2= 10 MPa, PH2= 0.5 MPa, temperature= 80 °C, time= 5h and water= 4 ml). There are three different routes of conversion: (i) hydrogenolysis, which results equimolecular mixture of monocyclic compounds such as phenol (PhOH) and benzene (Bz) followed by the hydrogenation to cyclohexanone (CHO)/cyclohexanol (CHOH) and cyclohexane (CH), respectively. (ii) Hydrolysis generates two molecules of PhOH and subsequently hydrogenated to CHOH and (iii) hydrogenation of aromatic rings; DPE can be converted to a partial aromatic ring hydrogenated product cyclohexyl phenyl ether (CHPE), followed by the formation of a completely hydrogenated dicyclohexyl…
