Men are just something else. The power they have over a women says a lot. I remember a time in which my dear friend had shared details upon her relationship which had me in shock. From her words, she did something in which she never would do because of the person she is. The time his happened was when we were young, still in middle school. Although she was afraid to engage in “real” sexual activities like sex as Peggy Orenstein would describe it. My friend did however have oral sex to keep her man because to her, “oral sex is not a big deal. Everyone does it” (Girls & Sex, 47). She was young and to her she wasn’t fully aware of all her body parts. Therefore she had a fixed mindset to believe that, “[her] vagina [was] ugly, rank, unappeal-ing” (Girls & Sex, 63). Girls and women have to understand that the hierarchy of a male in the sexual activities area should not escalate anymore. If we continue to allow men to believe that they are the dominant one in intimacy, we have lost meaning in femininity and girl power.
