“I became insane, with long intervals of horrible sanity,” said Edgar Allan Poe. Edgar Allan Poe was NOT actually insane, this was from one of his famous well known books, The Black Cat. Edgar Allan Poe was a well known inspirational scary book writer. After taking a look at the life and work of Edgar Allan Poe, it is apparent that this writer deserves recognition as a profound American writer. Edgar Allan Poe was born January 19th, 1809 in Boston Massachusetts (Poets.org). Poe’s parents were John and Frances Allan, even though these were not his real parents (Short Stories, Tales). John, a prosperous tobacco exporter, sent Poe to the best boarding schools and later to the University of Virginia, where Poe excelled academically. This helped influence Poe to write books when he got older, Short Stories, Tales. His younger cousin, Virginia, became a big literary inspiration to Poe as well as his love interest (Bio.com). Poe had many achievements in his life. In the late 1830s, Poe published Tales of the Grotesque and Arabesque, a collection of stories he wrote. His first collection of poems, Tamerlane, and Other Poems, was published in the year 1827. Poe has written various numbers of books, but mainly poems. Like, the Tales of the Grotesque and Arabesque" was published in 1839 (Poets.org). Poe received the copyright and 20 copies of the book, but no money, which he didn't like. He wrote many books but didn't really see what they came of moneywise, Short Stories, Tales. He wrote "The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym" but he could not find any financial success once again (Bio.com). After looking back at the ethicism Poe put into his work it's stunning to see how hard he worked for all of this. Poe worked thru the ups and downs. Poe worked for this and didn't get any
